What this timber decks and cladding NVQ covers

This Level 2 NVQ is designed for experienced carpenters who specialise in timber decking and cladding. You’ll prove your competence through photos, short videos, and a chat with your assessor – no essays, no exams. It’s the most direct route to your Blue CSCS card and shows you’re skilled in:

  • Constructing stud work and timber frames
  • Installing door linings and hanging doors
  • Fitting floor joists and bracing trussed rafters
  • Cutting common rafters and fixing architraves
  • Constructing and fixing hatch linings, locks, and latches

Your assessor will work with you to gather high‑quality evidence from your site, making the process efficient and straightforward.

What to expect from the NVQ

You complete a simple registration form and provide a copy of your photo ID (passport or driving licence). Your assessor then arranges a short induction call to talk through the units, the portfolio system, and the kind of evidence that works best for your role. No exams, no college enrolment.

You’ll use our online portfolio to upload evidence: photos of you carrying out carpentry tasks (decking, cladding, framing), site plans, risk assessments, and a witness testimony from your supervisor or client. You’ll also answer a few knowledge questions – you can write them or just discuss them with your assessor over the phone.

When your assessor is happy that all evidence meets the standards, they’ll arrange a final professional discussion – a relaxed chat about how you work, handle problems, and keep safe. After that, your portfolio is sent for internal verification, and you’ll receive your CITB‑approved diploma in the post. Then you’re ready to apply for your Blue CSCS card.

We keep the NVQ process simple, so you can complete it quickly without disruption to your work. Our assessors are industry experts who guide you step by step. We focus on helping you get qualified with minimum fuss – no unnecessary delays.
